【 Background 】

       Lifting lugs play a crucial role in ensuring stability and safety during hoisting operations. Advanced countries often set testing standards at several times the working load, and maintaining complete functional performance under such harsh loads is a significant challenge!
       In this case, the client needed to meet strict product requirements and had to make numerous adjustments and selections among various dimensions (thickness, width, and spacing) and features (holes, grooves). Despite countless modifications and tests, they still could not find the answer or direction, and thus commissioned Richin to conduct optimal design for the lifting lug.
 

 

【 Solution 】

Focusing on the two major challenges of this case:

  1. How to quantify the influence of various parameters on product performance

  2. To ensure statistical reliability, dozens of parameter combinations must be tested

 

Richin integrated Altair’s HyperStudy and SimLab modules to execute an “automated factor analysis” workflow. Key points are as follows:

      1. Automated geometry modification and automated finite element modeling

       We use the SimLab module to link with CAD software to “automatically generate new geometry,” and apply Macros to automate modeling and submit solver runs.
 

      2. Automated extraction of analysis results, interpretation, and statistics

       With HyperStudy the module can automatically organize all computation results, then perform “interpretation and statistical analysis.” We also incorporated additional factory rules and logical checks during interpretation to make the statistical results better align with the client’s needs.

1. Quantified main effects of parameters
       Quantified the influence of each design parameter on product performance and eliminated those with negative impact

       Clarified mutual influences between parameters to eliminate those that cause instability or negative effects toward other parameters

3. Intuitive statistical charts
       Since HyperStudy provides highly intuitive statistical charts, communication with the client and internal high-level discussions become more convenient and effective

4. Follow-up optimization analysis
       Optimization analysis can directly apply the automated workflow used in factor analysis, while parameter filtering significantly boosts optimization efficiency
