【 Background 】 

       This fluid–structure interaction (FSI) analysis project was commissioned by a domestic antenna manufacturer. They designed a large 5G antenna and needed to evaluate how wind forces affect the antenna’s swing angle to ensure it meets specification requirements.
       To shorten the analysis timeline and help the client find solutions as quickly as possible, Richin leveraged the powerful multiphysics integration capabilities of Altair SimLab to rapidly set up the complex FSI workflow and compute the angle variation that the client cared about most.


 


 

【 Solution 】

       The biggest challenge in this analysis is that the airflow domain is not fixed—it must deform along with the antenna structure. As the antenna deforms under wind load, the altered geometry affects the surrounding airflow, meaning the wind force applied to the antenna is not constant but fluctuates with its swing angle.
       To solve this type of problem, fluid–structure interaction (FSI) must be applied, simultaneously computing structural deformation and its interaction with the airflow.
       Traditional FSI workflows have been complicated and time-consuming to set up. Through the SimLab platform, Altair significantly reduces project setup time, lowers the user learning barrier, and delivers analysis results rapidly.

 

 

【 Results & Highlights 】

  • Identified structural weaknesses through analysis and proposed solutions such as reinforcing the antenna bracket and reducing radome wind resistance.

  • Ensured the antenna swing angle and other performance indicators met requirements.

  • Shortened development time from two months to one week.

  • Reduced testing costs by 70%.
